Over 500 performers from 46 teams to thrill at Sarawak Int’l Dragon and Lion Dance Cup

KUCHING, Oct 22: More than 500 performers representing 46 teams from Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore will converge in Kuching for the Sarawak International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup 2025, to be held from Nov 1 to 2 at the Ang Cheng Ho Multipurpose Hall, Batu Kawa.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Minister for Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the second edition of the championship follows the resounding success of its inaugural tournament last year, which attracted enthusiastic participation from both local and international teams.

“The success of the first edition has been the driving force behind the continuation of this event, which has now become part of Sarawak’s annual sports and cultural calendar,” he said during a press conference at the Ministry’s office in Baitulmakmur Complex today.

Teams will compete across four main categories of Moonlight Dragon, Northern Light Dragon, High Pole Southern Lion Dance, and Traditional Southern Lion Dance.

A total of RM65,000 in prizes will be awarded, including cash rewards, trophies, and specially designed medals that showcase Sarawak’s rich cultural identity as the host. — DayakDaily
