KUCHING, July 13: More than 1,500 tourism players from all over the country are expected to attend the annual Malaysia Tourism Council (MTC) Gold Awards 2022 ceremony to be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Oct 22.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that this will be the first time that MTC collaborates with the Sarawak government to organise the awards ceremony to recognise the survivors and tourism heroes.

“We are seriously promoting Sarawak as the leading tourism destination and therefore, it is very timely for this event to be held in Sarawak.

“As you know the tourism industry has been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic but nevertheless, there are many tourism players who have survived through their resilience and commitment,” he said in a press conference on the MTC Gold Awards 2022 at his office in Baitulmakmur Complex II here today.

For the coming MTC Gold Awards, Abdul Karim revealed that over 80 awards in various categories would be presented to industry players for their excellence and support in the development of the tourism industry in Malaysia.

“The awards recognise all industry players and stakeholders such as the national and State tourism (players), local authorities, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, theme parks, homestays, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and small and medium enterprises (SME) that contribute to the recovery of the tourism industry.

“I look forward to the MTC Gold Award in October and I wish the organiser Malaysian Tourism Council (MTC) a fruitful event which will bring much awaited excitement to the tourism industry,” he added.
