KUCHING, May 5: The city of Kuching is gearing up for the Bestride Borneo – City Run 2025 on May 11, with over 1,300 participants expected to join the much-anticipated urban run aimed at promoting healthy and sustainable living.
Jointly organised by BES Team Sdn Bhd and the City Jogger’s Club, the event is part of the Borneo Eco Show (BES) 2025, a three-day design festival advocating for sustainability in the built environment.
The City Run is supported by Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (Sarawak Chapter) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
The Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Dato Wee Hong Seng, will officiate the event and flag off the run at the MBKS foyer at 5.30am.
The run features three categories: a 3km Fun Run (Category A), a 7km Fun Run (Category B), and a 15km Competitive Run (Category C).
Registration, which began in February, has since closed following overwhelming public response across all age groups.
Race pack collection will be held on May 9 and 10 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), which also serves as the venue for BES2025’s design forums and exhibitions.
The City Run programme will begin as early as 4.30am, with staggered flag-offs starting with the 15km runners at 5.30am, followed by the 7km and 3km runners at 6.15am and 6.45am respectively.
Fitness trainers will lead group warm-up and cool-down sessions, while refreshments and photo opportunities await participants at the finish line.
At 7.30am, a prize-giving ceremony will honour the top 10 winners in each competitive category, including Men Open, Women Open, Men Veteran, and Women Veteran. The event will conclude with closing remarks at 8.30am.
The Bestride Borneo – City Run also marks the grand finale of BES2025, which features the BES Design Forum, Trade Expo, and a large-scale Cardboard Art Installation—all held at BCCK on May 9 and 10.
BES2025 is the first event of its kind in Sarawak to integrate sustainable design with public outreach, bringing together renowned architects from Sri Lanka, the United States, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia to share insights on eco-conscious practices in architecture and construction. — DayakDaily
