Organise teacher training workshops to improve online teaching under new norm, urges Lee

MIRI, May 30 : Miri-Limbang Division Chinese School Teachers’ Association has been told to organise teacher training workshops to improve online teaching.

State Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the association is a good communication platform for teachers and this would not only improve the quality of online education but also make online teaching more lively with knowledge being passed to students.

“Everyone’s lives have undergone tremendous changes under the new normal due to the raging Covid-19 pandemic. Teachers, parents and students are trying to adapt to use online education method to teach and to learn,” he opined after attending the association’s virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) here today.

Lee added, even though the switching from traditional face-to-face teaching to online teaching process is challenging, with the strong will and dedication of teachers the situation can prevail.

“The year 2020 was a difficult and unusual year, there were many activities and plans that were cancelled due to the pandemic, such as the Chinese primary school academic and talent competitions.

“Activities or competitions such as speeches, calligraphy, writing, singing, for instance can be held on an online platform so that students can have lively and interesting extracurricular activities in addition to online classes,” he pointed out.

The battle with Covid-19 is still ongoing and the people must not give up easily, Lee said, adding that the Sarawak government has done its utmost to fight the pandemic and to safeguard the health rights of the people of Sarawak.

“More vaccines will arrive in Sarawak, and more people will be vaccinated in order to achieve a herd immunity as soon as possible.  So I hope that all of you including your family, relatives and friends, can go register as soon as possible if you have not registered for the vaccine,” he disclosed.

He said, to get their vaccination, the public can book their vaccines slot via the MySejahtera mobile applications or go to the district office or government clinic.— DayakDaily
