KUCHING, April 4: The Organisation for Addiction Prevention Treatment and Rehabilitation (OAPTAR) hosted a ‘Berbuka Puasa’ (breaking fast) event with the local media community today.
The event, which was held at Serapi Hotel, is part of the organisation’s efforts to foster community engagement, and to promote awareness about their work.
Speaking during the event, OAPTAR president Cindy Biding said over the past four years, OAPTAR has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at capacity building among prevention and treatment providers, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively address substance abuse in their communities.
“In addition to capacity building efforts, OAPTAR has been recognized as a trusted training provider by the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program, a testament to OAPTAR’s commitment to excellence in education and professional development,” she said.
OAPTAR’s flagship initiative is its school-based prevention programme which include the successful Healthy Lifestyle Program for primary school and the Wellness Champion Program for secondary schools. These programmes focus on skills buildings and resilience building activities, empowering students to make healthy choices and resist peer pressure.
Through collaboration with partners like universities and research institutions, OAPTAR is set to contribute valuable insight to the field informing policy and practice at local, national and international levels.
