KUCHING, Sept 23: In a heartwarming encounter, a large adult male orangutan known as Mayas Chapan was recently spotted enjoying a romantic day out with his pregnant partner at the Nanga Delok headquarters of Batang Ai National Park.
A video capturing their charming escapade was shared by Batang Ai National Park on its various social media platforms, showcasing the couple’s curious and energetic exploration of their forest home.
As radiant golden sunbeams filtered through the dense canopy overhead, the orangutans displayed their exceptional acrobatic skills.
With their long, graceful arms, they swung effortlessly from tree to tree, gracefully traversing the treetops with remarkable agility.
During their journey through the lush rainforest, Mayas and his partner would often find sturdy branches to perch on, providing them with panoramic views as they scanned the vast expanse of the national park below.
The park’s guides and staff couldn’t contain their excitement as they watched in awe of the gentle giants’ playful antics.
It’s become known that Mayas occasionally visits Batang Ai National Park, endearing himself to those dedicated to the conservation of this exceptional natural sanctuary.
Nanga Delok serves as a center of excellence for conservation efforts within Batang Ai National Park, which plays a vital role as part of the region’s largest trans-national protected area dedicated to the preservation of tropical rainforests.
Adjacent to Malaysia’s Lanjak-Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary and Indonesia’s Betung Kerihun National Park, these protected areas collectively provide a haven for numerous endangered species, including the iconic Borneo orangutan.
Impressively, it’s estimated that more than 1,000 orangutans call this sanctuary home.
In line with its commitment to conservation, Batang Ai National Park restricts visitor access to only a portion of its pristine territory.
This measured approach allows fortunate visitors to catch a glimpse of wild orangutans thriving in their natural habitat, fostering a deeper appreciation for these incredible creatures and their vital role in the ecosystem. — DayakDaily
