KUCHING, June 24: A total of 128 cases involving the misappropriation and smuggling of controlled goods with a seizure value of RM1.18 million have been investigated under Ops Tiris 3.0 from January to June this year, underscoring the government’s firm commitment to protecting public subsidies and ensuring price stability.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Senator Datuk Dr Hajah Fuziah Salleh said the operations were part of the ‘Kita Gempur’ initiative, which aims to strengthen enforcement actions, combat various forms of subsidy abuse, and ensure subsidised goods reach the people at regulated prices across Sarawak.

In her working visit on Monday (June 23) to ICQS Tebedu—the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security complex at the Malaysia-Indonesia border—Fuziah joined enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak to observe ongoing border operations and receive briefings from immigration and customs officials.

“Since April 2025, KPDN Sarawak has been conducting inspections on vehicles passing through ICQS Tebedu to monitor compliance among both commercial and private vehicles with trade regulations,” she said in a statement.

She added that KPDN has stationed officers at the ICQS checkpoint four days a week to curb misappropriation and smuggling activities, especially involving controlled items such as sugar, cooking oil, and flour.

Beyond ICQS operations, Fuziah said the Ministry also conducts intelligence-gathering and periodic inspections at border-area petrol stations and collaborates closely with other enforcement agencies such as the General Operations Force, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

The deputy minister also visited a local GMT wholesaler, Guan Tai Sdn Bhd, as part of her enforcement engagement to ensure compliance with supply and pricing regulations.

She stressed that the Madani government adopts a “Whole Nation Approach” that involves not just government agencies but also the public as key partners in preventing leakages, fraud, and manipulation.

“Consumers are the closest to traders and often the first to detect suspicious activities. That is why we encourage the public to act as the eyes and ears of the Ministry,” she said.

The public can provide information on activities related to misappropriation, leakages, smuggling, manipulation, fraud, and cartels involving controlled and subsidised goods through KPDN digital channels by WhatsApp (019-848 8000), e-Complaint portal (e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my), Call Centre 1-800-886-800, and Ez Adu KPDN mobile app. — DayakDaily
