KUCHING, June 26: A total of 76 foreign nationals, comprising 62 men and 14 women, were detained during an integrated immigration enforcement operation known as ‘Ops Sapu’, carried out by the Sarawak Immigration Department (JIM) in Kabong yesterday (June 25).
According to a TVS news report, JIM Sarawak said in a statement that the raid was conducted at two locations by the Sarikei Immigration Enforcement Unit in collaboration with the Special Task Force (PTK), involving 24 enforcement personnel.
The operation saw 81 individuals screened, with 76 arrested for suspected offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and related immigration regulations.
“All individuals detained are believed to be undocumented migrants and have been taken in for further investigation,” the statement read.
JIM Sarawak reiterated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration activities across the state.
The department also reminded employers and property owners to comply with immigration laws, warning that firm action will be taken against anyone found to be harbouring or employing undocumented foreigners. — DayakDaily
