KUCHING, May 3: The long-awaited Opar Rural Growth Centre (RGC) is expected to be completed in the next five years, said Assistant Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh.
He said the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) would start implementing the infrastructures such as road, electricity and water supplies to the proposed commercial and housing sites this year and complete them by 2020.
“An allocation of RM17 million has been approved for the infrastructure development for Opar RGC for 2019. These infrastructure projects will start in the third quarter of this year,” Len Talif told Opar assemblyman Dato Ranum Mina during the question-and-answer session at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
He added that an allocation of RM5 million for the site clearing and earth-filling works for housing purposes was completed in 2016.
“Work on the commercial area was completed in 2017 with an allocation of RM10,” he said.
To a supplementary question by Ranum, Len Talif revealed that the Opar RGC was expected to be fully completed under the 12th Malaysia Plan with the construction of both commercial centre and housing area in the new township.
The Opar RGC was first announced by then chief minister and current Head of State Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud in 2006. The RGC is located midway between Lundu and Bau. — DayakDaily
