KUCHING, March 25: Several roads in Kuching will be closed on March 26 and 27 in conjunction with the 80th Commemoration of Operation Semut Parachute Landing 1945 at Padang Merdeka here.
In a statement, Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that roads will be closed for rehearsal for the event, which will take place on March 26 from 9am to 11am, followed by the actual event on March 27 from 8.30am to 11am.
The roads that will be affected are the following:
- RTM traffic light junction to Padang Merdeka
- Jalan Mcdougall heading to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg (Merdeka Palace Hotel)
- Jalan Wawasan heading to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg
- Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg heading to Padang Merdeka (the Old Court House and the traffic light junction at Plaza Merdeka)
“The police request that those who plan to attend the event don’t park their cars along the roadside and plan their journeys using the alternative routes to avoid congestion,” he said.
