MIRI, Oct 20: Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has called on the public to focus on the country’s strong track record of completed projects rather than judging based on the small percentage of “sick” or delayed projects.
Speaking in Miri today at the handover of the newly completed Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Complex, Nanta emphasised that the majority of projects undertaken by the Ministry of Works have been successfully completed, with only a small number experiencing delays.
“As of October 2024, only 2.67 per cent of the total 786 projects are classified as ‘sick,’ showing a reduction from 2.8 per cent previously,” Nanta said.
He pointed out that this figure highlights the ministry’s strong performance, with 97.8 per cent of the projects being completed on time.
In Sarawak, only two projects fall under the ‘sick’ category—Sekolah Menengah Kebangaaan (SMK) Belaga and Kolej Vokasional Miri.
“These two projects are the only ones in Sarawak facing delays, and we are making continuous efforts to ensure their completion,” Nanta reassured.
The minister stressed that while challenges exist, the overwhelming majority of the ministry’s projects are progressing smoothly, urging the public to recognise the ministry’s achievements rather than focusing on the small percentage of delayed projects.
“Don’t look at the 2.67 per cent of problematic projects—focus on the 97.8 per cent that have been completed,” Nanta urged. — DayakDaily
