Only committee members allowed for prayers in houses of worship on first day of CNY

KUCHING, Feb 7: Only committee members are allowed to attend prayers in houses of worship or temples on the first day of Chinese New Year (CNY).

According to the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), prayers in houses of worship or temples are limited to 12 committee members subject to the size of the premises.


Prayers are only allowed on the first day of CNY for districts under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Movement Control Order (MCO).

Committee members must strictly comply with the earlier SOP issued by SDMC through Unifor dated October 3, 2020.

According to revised guidelines for the SOPs for CNY released by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing last Friday (Feb 5), praying activities at temples on the first day of CNY is allowed with strict SOPs. — DayakDaily
