One-way airfares to Sabah, Sarawak capped at RM300 for Kaamatan Festival, Gawai Dayak

KUCHING, May 22: All one-way flights from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak will be capped at RM300, excluding taxes and fees, for Kaamatan Festival and Hari Gawai Dayak.

Minister of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said this was the result of his ministry’s engagement with Ministry of Transport Malaysia and relevant airlines to increase flight frequency during festive seasons.


“I am glad to note that the announcement by the Minister of Transport Malaysia (Anthony Loke) on the subsidy for flight tickets from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak for Kaamatan Festival and Hari Gawai Dayak.

“With one-way airfare capped at a maximum of RM300, excluding taxes and fees, it will reduce the cost of travelling.

“All major airlines including Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, AirAsia, MYAirline and Batik Air are participating in this subsidy programme,” he said when tabling his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

According to a report by The Sun Daily on May 18, Loke said the subsidy programme which involves a total of 17,708 one-way flight tickets, are offered for the travel dates May 27, 28 and 29 to Sabah and May 29, 30 and 31 to Sarawak.

He also said travellers may still buy tickets at a lower price if the original ticket price is less than RM300. — DayakDaily
