KUCHING, Oct 22: Residents can seize a one-stop opportunity to undergo free cancer and health screening at the upcoming KOSPEN Komuniti 2025 programme at Kota Sentosa Health Clinic on Nov 8 (Saturday) from 7am to 2pm.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said the event will focus on comprehensive cancer screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer—the three leading cancers in Malaysia.
“What makes this event special is that it’s a one-stop opportunity for everyone to get screened and take charge of your health,” he said at a press conference held at the clinic today.
He said 100 free Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) screening kits, each worth over RM200, will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, while assuring that the cervical screening is painless, safe and conducted by medical professionals.
Meanwhile, Family Medicine Specialist, Dr Jennett Michael, said those who are unable to receive the free HPV screening during the event will still be included for follow-up.
“We will get their names and contact them once we have a new supply of HPV DNA kits,” she said, encouraging all women to register their interest through the clinic’s QR code system.
Asked why the event was being held at the clinic instead of a public space, Yap said it offered better facilities and privacy.
“We’ve done it before at Kota Sentosa Town Square, but the ladies found it quite difficult because they had to go to the back of the room.
“This time, since everything is here, it’s more convenient and conducive for everyone,” he explained.
Organising chairperson Dr ‘Aizat Ruslin added that holding it on a Saturday ensures there will be no disruption to normal clinic operations.
“On Saturday, we won’t have patients coming in, so it won’t be crowded. The rooms will be used just for the screening, making it smoother and more comfortable for participants,” he said.
The event will also feature Zumba sessions, health talks, cancer survivor sharing sessions as well as booths by Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) and the Welfare Department to assist the public in registering for social protection and senior citizen benefits. — DayakDaily
