TATAU, June 4: Emergency responders rescued an injured man from a three-metre-deep ravine while another injured victim was pulled to safety by passersby after their car crashed and plunged off Jalan Tatau-Sibu last night (June 3).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tatau received the distress call at 6.25pm and upon arrival at the scene—opposite Rh Sulang—found one of the victims still trapped beneath the rear section of the Proton Wira.
It is believed the vehicle had veered off the left shoulder of the road while travelling from Sibu towards Tatau before plunging into the ravine.
One of the victims had already been rescued by members of the public and handed over to a Ministry of Health ambulance for transport to the hospital.
Firefighters carried out a rescue operation using specialised equipment, including a power unit and telescopic ram, to extricate the second victim.
He was then secured onto a stretcher and lifted to safety before being handed over to the waiting ambulance for further medical attention. — DayakDaily
