One active cluster down, 34 more remain in Sarawak

KUCHING, March 21: With the end of the Sebangkoi Cluster, a Covid-19 community cluster originating from a family in Sri Aman, Sarawak is faced with 34 more active clusters.

According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), 12 active clusters only registered single-digit increases in new cases today while the remaining 22 clusters reported zero cases.


Jalan Kampung Hilir Cluster in Sibu recorded the highest increase, with nine new cases for the day, bringing the cluster’s total up to 53.

Next in line was the Sungai Bakong secondary school cluster in Meradong with eight new patients. The cumulative number of cases for the cluster now stands at 1,372.

The Tanjung Genting Cluster stemming from an eatery in Meradong, the Jalan Muhibbah cockfighting cluster and the Emperoh Jambu funeral cluster in Betong all picked up five cases each today.

Three more clusters, namely the Jalan Sanyan supermarket cluster in Sibu, Jalan Merpati shopping centre cluster and Sena community cluster in Miri saw an increase of three cases each.

Meanwhile, the Sungai Atap longhouse cluster in Meradong, Begalak logging camp cluster in Song and Jalan Green Valentine’s Day cluster in Kuching registered two new cases each.

The Buluh Pasi Cluster in Meradong is the only cluster registering one new case in the most recent 24-hour reporting period. — DayakDaily
