OlaBola The Musical to be staged in Kuching this September

KUCHING, Sept 3: For the first time ever, Sarawakians will have the opportunity to watch the full version of “OlaBola The Musical” at Stadium Perpaduan, here, on Sept 6-8.

In the spirit of the upcoming Malaysia Day celebration, Enfiniti Sdn Bhd announced the three-day performance of their award-winning production “OlaBola The Musical”, which will be free for all.

The two-and-a-half hour show, directed and produced by Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, will start at 8pm.


Speaking at a press conference today, Tiara said, “Over the two seasons of performing OlaBola at Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur, I saw the effect our show had on the audience.

“People would come up to the cast, production team and me, to tell us how they were moved or inspired by our story. They even commented on how 1980s Malaysia was so different from what it is today.

“How we had the best national football team of all time, made up of ‘brothers’ of different races, who played with all their hearts for the King, the country and the flag. They even said how watching OlaBola made them feel a sense of national pride and love for Malaysia.”

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, his assistant ministers Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and Datuk Snowdan Lawan were present.

Thankful for the opportunity to be able to share the beautiful story in celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia Day with the communities in Kuching, Tiara said the last time she brought a show was when they performed “P Ramlee The Musical” back in 2013.

“I am also grateful for the faith and support by Sarawak government, Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak, Sarawak Energy Bhd, Cahya Mata Sarawak, Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd, corporate supporters and government link companies.

“It is wonderful to see how everyone banded together in the true spirit of Merdeka to make this tour possible, so that the public can come and watch for free as part of the celebrations,” she said.

Ola Bola The Musical tour began in Penang on Aug 31. Kuching is the second stop of the tour, with three 8pm performances.

The original cast members who will be back included Altimet, who plays Sarjan Ahmad; Brian Chan as “Tauke” Chow Kong Keong; Luqman Hafidz as Ahmad Ali; Lim Jian Wen as Ong Tiam Chai; Iedil Putra as Rahman Ramli; Tony Eusoff as Coach Harry and Nabila Huda in several roles.

After their performance in Kuching, Ola Bola The Musical will head to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Sept 16) and Kuantan, Pahang (Sept 21).

Tiara added that Kuching’s tour will be held in a full scale musical performances of 2.5 hours, while Penang, Pahang and Kota Kinabalu gets a condensed version of it, which is about one hour.

Free entry passes may be collected at Stadium Perpaduan beginning Sept 3, from 1-7pm.
