KUCHING, Dec 24: The Magistrate’s Court sentenced Zakwan Mokhtar, 23, to three months in prison today after he pleaded guilty to filing a false police report, denying his involvement in the abduction of 28-year-old Nurul Asikin Lan.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan announced that the sentence would take effect immediately.

The sentence followed charges under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant (in this case, a police officer) with the intent to cause the report to be acted upon by authorities, leading to potential harm or annoyance to the person mentioned in the report.

According to case details, Zakwan, an e-hailing driver, filed a police report at Sentul Police Station, Kuala Lumpur, on Dec 10, 2024, to deny accusations made in a viral Facebook post claiming he had kidnapped Nurul Asikin.

In the report, Zakwan stated that he drove Nurul Asikin from Darul Hana Housing, Petra Jaya, at around 11pm on Dec 5, 2024, and left her to meet a friend at another location while he returned home.

However, following a police investigation, it was revealed that Zakwan drove Nurul Asikin to Unijaya, Kota Samarahan, where they stayed together until the evening of Dec 6, 2024.

In a separate proceeding, the Magistrate Court has scheduled the next hearing for the murder case of Nurul Asikin Lan for February 10, 2025.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali set the date after the public prosecutor informed the court that the team is awaiting DNA and post-mortem reports related to the case.

This is in connection with charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. — DayakDaily
