KOTA SAMARAHAN, Nov 4: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by the Japanese government is more than a personal achievement as it is an international recognition of Sarawak’s forward-looking and sustainable energy policies.

Speaking to the media after officiating the third session of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) 29th Convocation Ceremony here today, Abang Johari said the honour marks a new milestone in Sarawak’s international recognition.

It is also particularly significant as Abang Johari becomes the first leader from the State to receive the prestigious award, which will be officially presented in Tokyo on November 11.

“This award is not for me alone but for Sarawak, a recognition of the progressive policies introduced by the State, especially in renewable energy development,” he said.

The Premier also added that Sarawak is set to take a more active role in driving the global green economy following the conferment.

He said that the collaboration with Japan as a key strategic partner in hydrogen and renewable energy technology reflects the State’s commitment to pioneering green innovations.

“Sarawak is currently focusing on developing hydrogen and other renewable energy sources, where Japan continues to be one of our main partners in advancing green technology,” he said.

He further noted that the recognition also signifies global validation of Sarawak’s low-carbon initiatives, which are aligned with the State’s sustainable economic agenda. — DayakDaily
