SIBU, July 10: There are no sick projects in Sibu Division although some of them are behind schedule.
“Projects that are currently being implemented in Sibu Division involve a cost of RM317.4 million while those that have been approved for implementation total RM1.603 billion. The overall cost of projects currently under implementation and those that have been approved awaiting implementation are RM1.92 billion.
“Up til now, most projects are being implemented smoothly. There are no projects that are categorised as sick projects. Most of them are according to their schedule though some of them are behind schedule. But this can be overcome,” said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
He said this after attending a briefing on projects in the division today. The briefing was conducted by Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu chief Chieng Siong Ming.
On the proposed Jalan Teku Pasai-Siong that will connect to Kemuyang, he said it would be implemented under Projek Rakyat.
“I visited the site at 6.30am this morning. The road will be from the UTS (University of Technology Sarawak) roundabout to Pasai-Siong. It will be a dual carriageway to Kemuyang and later the road from Taman Desa Kemuyang to Jalan Sibu-Bintulu will be upgraded to a higher level for more convenience,”said Aidil.
He said the project is a challenging one as it involves utility infrastructure, as well as electricity and telecommunication cables.
On the ongoing construction of the 7.6km Jalan Kong Yit Khim to Sibu Airport, he said it would be completed by this December.
“JKR needs to monitor the project so that it can be completed before Christmas,” he said.
Among those present at the briefing were Nangka and Bawang Assan assemblymen Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh respectively. — DayakDaily
