KUCHING, July 26: The Malaysian government has announced that there will be no replacement holiday for the overlapping public holidays on Sept 16, which marks both Malaysia Day and the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Maulidur Rasul).

This decision comes as both holidays fall on the same day, a Monday.

According to a statement from the Cabinet, Constitution, and Intergovernmental Relations Division under the Prime Minister’s Department, the Holidays Act 1951 [Act 369] does not provide for automatic replacement holidays when two public holidays coincide on a working day.

Therefore, there will be no additional public holiday on the following day, Tuesday, Sept 17.

The government, however, retains the authority to declare another day as a public holiday if it is deemed necessary. — DayakDaily
