KUCHING, April 10: There has been no occurrence of rabies cases in Satok or any areas under Kuching North City Commission’s (DBKU) jurisdiction, says Mayor Datu Junaidi Reduan.

He said he had double-checked the fact with the Sarawak Health Department.

He clarified this to DayakDaily amid speculations that there are rabies cases in Satok.

“The moment you mention Satok in your newspaper (or social media), people will think it (rabies case) is in the Satok area where there are a lot of Ramadan bazaars there. This could lead to public panic.

“That is why because of such a report, we should check with Sarawak Health Department, and they just confirmed (with me) there is none (rabies case),” he said.

In previous reports so far, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has recorded one rabies-positive case in Jalan Song last month, while Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has recorded 23 animal bite cases as of March 25. — DayakDaily
