KUCHING, June 11: No tolls are expected to be imposed on all federal roads in Sarawak, says Malaysian Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said when the idea to build Pan Borneo Highway was mooted, the former Chief Minister of Sarawak, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, made it very clear to the federal government that Sarawak did not want to have any tolls.
“That has been agreed, so there shouldn’t be any tolls because that has been indicated.
“Now, (the Sarawak government) is under Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and he was very firm that Pan Borneo Highway is not going to have any tolls,” he said in an exclusive interview with DayakDaily on Friday (June 9).
Nanta, who is Kapit MP, further said the same applies to another federal road project named Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase 2.
“The implementation of SSLR Phase 2 is to provide connectivity to the northern areas, especially in Limbang and Lawas, and we also do not expect tolls.
“Tolls have never been brought up. The planning for SSLR Phase 2 started a long time already, so why should we introduce the idea of tolls now?
“As far as I know, tolls have never been mentioned, so I do not expect tolls to be imposed on all the federal roads in Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
