No penalty for late renewal of trade, driving licences as UTC Sibu closed until March 15

Notice of the UTC Sibu closure from March 1, 2021 to March 15, 2021.

SIBU, March 2: There will be no penalty for late renewal of trade and driving licences during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting explained this following the extension of the temporary closure of Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Sibu until March 15.

UTC Sibu is closed in view of the extension of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) throughout Sarawak.

In sharing this notice on his Facebook page today, Ting said he has sought this clarification from Sibu District Office after many queries from the public regarding the renewal of trade and driving licences which could not be done as UTC Sibu and many other such offices were closed.

“The (Sibu District Office’s) reply was that the government’s directive was very clear.

“There is no penalty to be imposed on any late payment on (renewal of) any trade licences during this period.

“You can even drive your vehicles even though your driving licence has expired during this period,” he said.

In the notice, UTC Sibu management disclosed that its operations will likely resume on March 16.

Meanwhile, the CMCO in Sarawak, which had been scheduled to end on March 1, was extended for two more weeks until March 15.

The decision came following risk assessments with various agencies given the spike in Covid-19 cases throughout the state where a total of 2,623 cases were recorded between Feb 12 and Feb 25. — DayakDaily
