KUCHING, Dec 30: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has pledged to ensure that no one is invisible in the city’s development as it moves into 2026.

In a statement released today, Wee reaffirmed the council’s commitment to a people-centric infrastructure and governance model where progress is measured by the dignity and care afforded to every resident.

Wee said that MBKS has focused on essential services that impact daily life, including cleanliness, infrastructure maintenance, and public health initiatives.

“These are not glamorous achievements. They are better than that. They are dependable. And dependable governance is what allows a city to grow without losing its soul,” he said.

Addressing the city’s future, Wee highlighted that policies are being designed to serve residents at every stage of life. This includes child-friendly initiatives, safe streets, and senior wellness programmes.

“As our population ages, we are planning with intention. As our children grow, we are planning with hope. Our approach is simple: no one is invisible, and no one is left behind,” he stressed.

Wee also touched on the broader agenda of nation-building, stating that the council’s work in Kuching South contributes to a Sarawak that is confident and self-sustaining within the Malaysian federation.

He noted that nation-building begins on the streets and in the trust built between citizens and the government.

On the political front, with a potential democratic moment on the horizon, Wee urged Sarawakians to choose stability and practical governance over the politics of outrage.

“Sarawak has prospered because we believe in practical governance, respectful leadership, and policies rooted in Sarawakian realities. Not imported formulas or endless confrontations.

“The future of Sarawak will not be decided by who shouts the loudest, but by who governs the best and who shows up every day to do the work,” he added.

Concluding his message, Wee called for sustainability to remain a daily responsibility rather than a mere buzzword or campaign slogan.

He urged residents to move forward together with calm determination to protect the unique harmony of Kuching South.

“Let us choose unity over division, substance over slogans, and long-term welfare over short term politics.” — DayakDaily
