No new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, but Sentosa 2 Cluster gains 35 more cases

KUCHING, July 27: The Sentosa 2 Cluster in Kuching involving Sentosa Hospital here has seen an increase of Covid-19 cases to 164 after 35 new infections were reported, though no new clusters were detected in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the Sentosa 2 Cluster was among the seven active clusters in Sarawak which registered an increase in daily infections and contributed a total of 53 new cases to the daily case count today.

Of the number of positive cases, there are 130 active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated.

Sentosa 2 Cluster was declared on July 14 after 52 healthcare workers and residents of Sentosa Hospital contracted Covid-19.

There was one fatality reported in this cluster and 10 cases were linked to the Covid-19 Delta variant.

The remaining six active cluster that recorded an increase in cases were Duyoh Cluster in Bau which added seven more cases, Sebayor Cluster in Samarahan (6 cases), Jalan Tatau-Selangau Cluster in Tatau (2 cases), while Jalan Persisir Bintulu-Miri Cluster in Bintulu , Abu Bengang Cluster in Saratok and Lempaong Cluster in Betong has one case each.

SDMC also declared the end of five clusters namely Jalan Cattleya in Miri, Jalan Muara in Kuching, Tebakang Dayak in Serian as well as Sungai Kakus and Nanga Belungai, both in Tatau, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has been reduced to 81. — DayakDaily
