No new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak for fourth consecutive day

KUCHING, Aug 4: Sarawak recorded zero new Covid-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day today, maintaining the state’s tally of positive cases at 678.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas disclosed that the number of active clusters in Sarawak is also maintained at 10 with nine in Kuching and one in Bintulu.


They comprise the Engineering Company Cluster with eight cases, Mambong Cluster (7), Healthcare Cluster (3), Jupiter Cluster (3), Stutong Market Cluster (7), Kuching Jetty Cluster (2), Sentosa Cluster (31), Melbourne PUI Cluster (3), Kuching Construction Company Cluster (2) and Satok Market Cluster (4).

Currently four districts are labelled as Covid-19 yellow zones (less than 40 cases), namely Kuching, Samarahan, Serian and Lundu.

“Sarawak recorded eight recoveries who were discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and as such, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak is 607 or 89.53 per cent of total positive cases so far,” he told a press conference to give Covid-19 updates here today.

As of today, 52 patients are being treated in hospitals throughout the state with none admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) or requiring respiratory support.

There are 51 patients being treated in SGH and one in Bintulu Hospital.

“Sarawak also reported four more Persons-Under-Investigation (PUI) while three cases are still awaiting laboratory test results,” Uggah added.

In addition, 299 more Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) have been checked into identified hotels to undergo compulsory 14-day quarantines.

As of today, there were a total of 1,306 individuals undergoing quarantine in 17 hotels throughout the state. —DayakDaily
