KUCHING, July 12: Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said there is no need for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to attend a special session with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at this time, as there are no major issues that require a direct meeting.

He said this in response to a closed-door meeting held by the Prime Minister with Barisan Nasional (BN) members of Parliament at his official residence in Sri Perdana last night (July 11), which was reported to discuss government policies and clarify current issues ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary sitting.

Fadillah explained that the session was more critical for PH and BN representatives in Peninsular Malaysia, particularly to ensure alignment and understanding of government matters within the coalition.

“For GPS, we do not have any issues. We understand the matters being raised and our communication is effective. Since our numbers are not large, I can personally engage with our representatives,” he said in a pre-recorded interview when met at CENTEXS Santubong today.

He further explained that these matters have already been discussed at the Cabinet level, and he is aware of what needs to be clarified to ensure ministers, deputy ministers, and MPs from each party understand current national issues and how to communicate them effectively to their grassroots.

“If we are called (to meet the Prime Minister), we will attend, but I understand the issues and can play that role for GPS and GRS,” he added.

Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, added that this internal approach is more practical to avoid the need for large, time-consuming meetings, especially given the many ongoing government matters.

In adition, he said he will soon brief all GPS and GRS MPs, adding that a retreat will be held for unity government MPs, ministers, and deputy ministers next week.

Separately, he said he will be heading to Sabah for a technical committee meeting focused specifically on matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“The visit to Sabah is unrelated to current political issues. It is about technical matters under MA63, which are important to ensure Sabah’s rights continue to be strengthened within the federation,” he added. – DayakDaily
