KUCHING, June 13: Two long-awaited school infrastructure projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for 2023 are finally set to begin, following the official handover of the Letter of Award and project sites to the selected contractor.
According to a press release, the two projects were made possible through the RTP allocation of RM350,000 by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, which will benefit approximately 2,000 students at SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul (DPHA) Gapor and 300 students at SK Sungai Stutong. The two RTP projects are as follows:
- The construction of a new toilet block at SMK DPHA Gapor, costing RM150,000, with Syarikat Muqriz as the contractor.
- The construction of a covered open hall at the court area of SK Sungai Stutong costing RM200,000, with Haji Johny Wahi Kontraktor Dan Pembekal as the contractor.
These projects are being implemented in collaboration with the Public Works Department (JKR), which is the appointed government implementing agency, and whose officers were present to witness the formal handover alongside school representatives.
Speaking at the event, Yap expressed relief that both projects can now proceed without any further delay.
“I share the frustration of parents, teachers, and students who have waited too long for these basic yet critical upgrades. Today marks a turning point—our students will finally get the facilities they deserve,” said Yap.

He emphasised that the delays caused by bureaucratic red tape and cumbersome administrative processes must never be a reason for students to be left behind.
“Our children are the future leaders of Sarawak. They deserve nothing less than a safe, clean, and supportive environment to learn and grow. These facilities are not luxuries—they are necessities,” he added.
Yap reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to improving all public infrastructure in his constituency, especially within the education sector. He stressed that upgrading school facilities remains one of his top priorities in his constituency.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring quality educational facilities for all schools in his constituency, emphasising that a safe and conducive environment is vital for effective learning and student development.
“Education is a key pillar of progress. Good facilities play a significant role in motivating students and supporting teachers. I will continue to push for improvements and upgrades to all educational facilities within N12 Kota Sentosa,” he added.
These two RTP 2023 projects mark another milestone in Yap’s ongoing efforts to deliver impactful development at the grassroots level, particularly in education. — DayakDaily
