KUCHING, June 22: Sarawak and the Federal government are working towards similar objectives when it comes to education, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, both sides of the government share the same goal, which is to ensure that children grow up to be successful and well-rounded individuals.

“To me, there is no difference because what we (Sarawak and Federal Government) want is to produce successful children,” said Abang Johari during his speech at the Sarawak Education Award Ceremony 2024 at Santubong Hall, CIDB Convention Centre, Kuching today.

He said that both parents and teachers want the best for the children, aiming for them to succeed and contribute to society and the country.

“I know that when the children are successful, they will definitely remember their teachers because teachers are the ones that help them in becoming a successful individual,” he said.

To Abang Johari, when teachers are proud of their students, everyone can collectively take pride in their achievements as well.

During his speech, Abang Johari took the opportunity to thank the teachers for all their hard work as well as a special congratulatory for the award recipients.

Dr Norisah Suhaili and Jaul Bunyau received major awards and gold medals from Abang Johari for being named the Educational Leadership Figure and National Teacher Figure, respectively.

Both recipients of the major awards made significant contributions throughout their entire service within the education department before their mandatory retirement last year (2023).
