KUCHING, July 4: Immigration Department of Malaysia director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh vows the department and the Home Ministry will not compromise its integrity or condone any officers who are found to be involved in graft.
With reference to news reports on July 4 of allegations that there are a handful of department staff involved in corrupt practices and integrity violations, said the department has handled over the investigation on the allegations to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“This Department is in constant discussion and information-sharing with MACC to assist in the process of investigation to ensure transparency and avoid any interference from outside.
“In this context, the Department and the Home Ministry (KDN) will not compromise with any official who is found to be involved in graft, whether it occurs at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or any other immigration offices throughout the country,” said Ruslin in a statement today.
He said that not only will the department not protect officers who are found guilty of the offence but will take legal action at the departmental level against the culprits.
“We are also committed to improving the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to provide the best service to the people as well as foreign visitors entering Malaysia,” he said.
Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing alleged last Friday (June 30) that blackmail and extortion by immigration officers was rampant at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
He made the statement following a news report claiming that he had barged into KLIA without a pass in an attempt to free a female Chinese national detained by Immigration Department officers at KLIA 1.
Tiong who is also Bintulu MP then lodged a report with MACC where an investigation is now ongoing. — DayakDaily
