KUCHING, June 17: The organisation of Niti Daun Gawai Dayak 2023 is hoped to have displayed and reflected the spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’ (together in unity), says its chief coordinator, Lt Gen (Rtd) Datuk Stephen Mundaw.
He said the ‘niti daun’ (parade) served as a platform for all ethnicities to come and work together in one direction in the spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’.
“This means it does not involve the Dayaks alone but other ethnicities and races in Sarawak. Everyone was involved and worked together to make this event a success. In the end, it is part of our effort to materialise ‘segulai sejalai’.
“I believe that in the next ‘niti daun’, maybe we can extend it to other groups for us to come together in this one parade,” he told reporters when met during Niti Daun Gawai Dayak 2023 held at Kuching Waterfront today.
He further said the ‘niti daun’ could not be held previously due to the Covid-19 outbreak, with the last one in 2018.
This year, the ‘niti daun’ gathered over 90 contingents involving over 3,000 participants, including the crew members.
“As the chief coordinator for the parade, I coordinate with the Land and Survey Department and other relevant bodies to ensure the smoothness of the event.
“We also brought in the veterans—Persatuan Veteran Tentera Kor Renjer (PVTKR) and Dayak’s ‘Bujang Berani’.
“We also have Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), which included the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force,” he added.
When asked whether there are any other plans to make a bigger event in the future, he hinted that another special parade would be organised in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak Merdeka. — DayakDaily
