MIRI, Dec 2: Marudi police arrested nine Indonesian men to facilitate a police probe into a murder which took place as a result of a quarrel between plantation workers in Bakong on Saturday night (Dec 1).

The arrrested, aged 18 to 45-years-old, are currently being detained at Marudi police station for questioning.

The suspects are being investigated under Section 302 for murder.

Baram district police chief, DSP Gabriel Risut confirmed the arrests.

During the arrests, police also seized a knife believed to have been used in the murder.

“We believe the incident was caused by jealousy and anger as the deceased was reported to be having an affair with the wife of one of the men,” said Gabriel.

According to Gabriel, the estate’s supervisor was informed about a commotion involving the suspects with the deceased inside the workers’ quarters at 11pm on the night concerned.

Upon arrival at the quarters, the supervisor and two other friends found the deceased lying on the floor unconscious in a pool of blood.

“They immediately rushed the victim to Miri Hospital, but he was later pronounced dead,” he said. — DayakDaily
