KUCHING, June 30: Nine finalists will compete for the grand title of ‘Dayung Gawea Tematu’ in conjunction with Kampung Tematu Gawai Carnival on July and 2.
The final event will be held on July 2 at Kampung Tematu Multipurpose Hall.
The finalists will also compete for the titles of ‘Ratu Bakat’ (Talent Queen), ‘Ratu Populariti’ (Popularity Queen), ‘Ratu Personaliti’ (Personality Queen), ‘Ratu Fotogenik’ (Photogenic Queen) and ‘Busana Terbaik’ (Best Dressed Award).
Meanwhile, speaking during a event press conference tonight, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said Kampung Tematu Gawai Carnival has potential to attract tourists as well as visitors from outside of Kuching.
He also encourage the four major Bidayuh villages in his constituency namely Kampung Tematu, Kampung Semeba, Kampung Sudat and Kampung Bumbok to work together and take turns to organise the event in order to turn it into a bigger event.
“I hope to see this event grow into an international event and become a big event in years to come,” he added.
Among other activities that will be organised during the two-day event are exhibitions by government and non-government agencies, sales of agricultural products, food sales and many others.
Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony. — DayakDaily
