MIRI, June 10: About 20 people staged peaceful demonstrations in front of two Petronas stations here — at Jalan Bintang and at Lereng Bukit — this afternoon in support of Sarawak’s rights to its oil and gas resources.

They were led by former Pujut assemblyman Fong Pau Teck of Sarawak Independence Alliance (SIA).

The protestors gathered at about 2.30pm in Jalan Bintang and carried banners calling for a boycott of Petronas, while urging the state’s leaders to stand firm on this issue.

They demonstrated for about 15 minutes and then moved to Lereng Bukit to demonstrate for another 15 minutes. No untoward incidents happened on both occasions.

“We need a firm decision over this issue as it involves rights over our (oil and gas) resources,” said Fong, who also called on all Sarawakians to stand united behind the state leadership.

On June 4, national oil giant Petronas filed an application with the Federal Court to declare its exclusive rights to Sarawak’s oil and gas resources. — DayakDaily
