Newly established Betong Development Agency meets for first time today

Bida meets for the first time today. (June 23, 2022)

KUCHING, June 23: The recently announced Betong Integrated Development Agency (Bida) held its first meeting here today.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas chaired the meeting, where he was also proposed as its chairman.

Layar assemblymen Dato Gerald Rentap and Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam who were present were proposed as Bida’s deputy chairmen.


Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat and  Batang Lupar MP Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim also attended the meeting.

Also attending were Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapur, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor and Kabong assemblyman Mohamad Chee Kadir and Betong Resident Richard Michael Abunawas. 

According to Uggah, Bida now covers Layar, Bukit Saban, Saribas, Beting Maro, part of Lingga, Kalaka and Krian constituencies.

He said all the elected representatives concerned expressed their gratitude to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his decision to set up Bida.

“We are very confident Bida areas will experience accelerated social economic development including infrastructure development soon,” he said.

The formation of Bida, one of the two new agencies, was announced by Abang Johari when he officiated at the closing of the recent Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) triennial general meeting.  

The other agency Abang Johari announced was the Rajang Delta Development Agency.

Following the announcement of the two new development agencies, Sarawak has now eight such development agencies. — DayakDaily
