SIBU, Feb 8: A baby car seat possibly saved the life of a month-old baby boy as the car his mother was driving was involved in an accident that involved four vehicles at about 10am today at Jalan Oya near Sibu Hospital.

The boy, who was fastened in his baby car seat, only sustained a scratch on his forehead, possibly from the airbag which was activated during the collision.

A 20-year-old youth who was driving without a license lost control of the car, crossing to the opposite side of the road.

The car first rammed into the side of a bus, before hitting a 2-tonne lorry and the car the baby was in together with his mother.

The accident happened because the youth was trying to fix a sun shade on the driver’s side window. During the process he lost grip of the steering wheel.

According to the boy’s mother, they had bought the baby car seat two years before the ruling. At the time of the accident, they were heading to Permai Jaya which was opposite the hospital to visit their family.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed the case. —DayakDaily
