New wave of Covid-19 possible if Malaysians are complacent: Health DG

Dr Noor Hisham

KUCHING, Apr 24: Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah warned that it was not impossible for a new Covid-19 wave to emerge if Malaysians were being complacent.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, based on the data and modeling that has been done, the highest number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country was on April 3, with 217 cases.

He said apart from that, the number of cases was predicted to reach 6,300 by April 14, 2020, but so far that figure has not emerged.

“We also realised that we are now on the recovery phase, not at the peak phase and we hope that we can continue our momentum to control and reduce the number of cases from time to time.

“Nonetheless, it is not impossible to have an exponential surge if we let our guards down,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also noted that the implementation of the first and second phase of the MCO have probably effectively helped flatten the peak.

“So it is important for us to make sure that we continue what has been done during the first, second and currently the third phase of the MCO,” he said. —DayakDaily.
