KUCHING, Sept 3: The Daro water supply issue will be addressed using new technology, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
Abang Johari said the problem with water supply in Daro now concerns the sufficient supply of water from its source to existing water tanks.
“I will make an announcement about it as I am still discussing this matter with Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi.
“We will use new technology to pump the water supply into the tanks quickly, and from there, with strong pressure, it will be directly distributed to the consumers,” he said during the closing ceremony for Daro Festival which was streamed live from Daro via Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook page today.
However, Abang Johari said that when that matter is addressed, there will be another problem that needs to be consider which is the durability of the water pipeline to consumers’ houses.
Citing Kabong as an example, he said that due to the new water supply system that has been build there, the old pipeline supplying water to the residents’ houses had burst due to high water pressure.
“So they requested the government build a new pipeline to their houses. It involved another allocation, but that is our job as the government.
“So we will plan the development of the water supply because this is important for the villages and longhouses here,” he added. — DayakDaily
