KUCHING, Feb 14: A total of 161 new Covid-19 cases were reported throughout the state today with three deaths recorded.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a report, the Subis Cluster accounted for the most number of cases today with a total of 60 cases reported, followed by Sibu (45), Bintulu (16), Kapit (15), Samarahan (12), Miri (five), Julau (two) and one each for Kuching, Sri Aman, Saratok, Pakan, Beluru and Kanowit.
This brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the state to 6,586.
The 59th Covid-19 fatality in the state is Case 3,996 who was a local woman aged 52. She was admitted to Sibu Hospital for breathing difficulties, and was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on Jan 28, 2021, following a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR) test conducted on Jan 27, 2021.
The woman’s health condition continued to deteriorate and she was confirmed dead on Feb 13, 2021. The woman also suffered from high blood pressure, diabetics, and renal failure.
The 60th fatality is Case 4,303 who was a 73-year-old local woman who was also admitted into Sibu Hospital for breathing difficulties. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Jan 29, 2021, following a rt-PCR test conducted on Jan 28, 2021.
The woman who was linked to the Pasai cluster, was pronounced dead on Feb 13 after her health condition deteriorated. She had high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems.
The the 61st fatality is Case 1,822 who was a 63-year-old local man who was admitted into Sibu Hospital for breathing difficulties. He was found positive for Covid-19 on Jan 13 after a rt-PCR test was conducted.
Following that, the man’s condition continued to deteriorate and he was pronounced dead on Feb 13. He was also reported to have high blood pressure and dyslipidemia, and was also linked to the Pasai Cluster.
Meanwhile, SDMC disclosed a sub-cluster has formed under the Pasai Cluster and has been named as the Tangap Sub-Cluster. It involves a construction workers’ camp in the Subis district in Miri.
The index case for the Tangap Sub-Cluster, Case 4,797, was detected via a symptomatic screening test on Jan 31, 2021. The case had a travel record of returning from Song district, and is also a close contact of a Covid-19 case involving the third generation of the Pasai Cluster in Song district.
As of 12pm today, a total of 330 individuals from the Tangap workers’ camp in Subis has been screened, with 93 of them testing positive for Covid-19, including the index cases and the 60 new cases reported today, while 235 individuals tested negative and two more are awaiting tests results. — DayakDaily
