New Sala Cluster in Kedah today with three new cases

KUCHING, Aug 15: Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced a new Covid-19 cluster in Kedah called the Sala Cluster.

The cluster has until today reported three cases from the Yan district in Kedah, whereby the first individual (Case 9,148) to be found positive of the virus was detected through the Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) clinical surveillance system.


ā€œAll three cases reported today are family members of to the first case (Case 9,148) of the cluster.

ā€œAs of August 15, 2020, 80 of his close contacts have been screened. Of these, four returned positive results and the remaining 76 are still awaiting laboratory results,ā€ said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement on the national Covid-19 update today.

Meanwhile, he also noted 12 new cases reported from the Tawar Cluster which was first reported two days ago (Aug 13).

Ten individuals involved in the cluster are from Kedah whereas the other two are from Penang, bringing it to a cumulative number of 33 Covid-19 cases from the same cluster.

Up to date, a total of 657 close contacts have been tested in Kedah, Penang and Perak, and 33 have returned positive results.

ā€œPlease also be informed that there is one new case reported from the Young Cluster today.

ā€œAs of August 15, 2020, a total of 133 individuals involved in the cluster have been screened and of these, three were positive with 27 negative results and the remaining 103 still awaiting results,ā€ said Dr Noor Hisham.Ā ā€”DayakDaily
