BA’ KELALAN, April 4: The planned Sabah-Sarawak Link Road 2 (SSLR 2) and the border road connecting Ba’ Kelalan to Long Banga via Bario are set to revolutionise connectivity, paving the way for improved access to education and economic opportunities in the remote highlands of Sarawak.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, highlighted this during a monitoring visit to the newly completed Ba’ Kelalan Immigration Border Post building recently.
According to him, the new road network will be crucial in addressing long-standing challenges faced by rural students, particularly in accessing secondary education in Bario.
“We are aware that getting to school remains a major hurdle for students in the surrounding areas. With this road, travel will be safer, more convenient, and significantly faster,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report.

Local residents welcomed the initiative, noting that many parents currently have no choice but to send their children to boarding schools due to the difficulties of daily commuting.
The improved infrastructure is expected to give students the option to attend school while staying closer to their families.
During the visit, the Mulu assemblyman also inspected the readiness of the new Ba’ Kelalan Immigration Border Post, which has been fully completed and will commence operations soon.
Gerawat expressed hope that all development projects in the area would proceed smoothly, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents by improving access to essential services such as education and transportation.— DayakDaily
