KUCHING, Dec 3: The construction of a new road from the Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Road (FAC road) leading to Telaga Air is expected to start next year, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the new road would serve as an alternative road to the existing road along Kampung Temenggong which is quite narrow.
“When you enter from the FAC road, the road (leading to Telaga Air) is narrow.
“Therefore, we will build a new dual carriageway road straight from the Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Road up to here (Kampung Telaga Air) and we will upgrade the Telaga Air Waterfront and build a new mosque by the river and recreational facilities,” he said when officiating at the Telaga Air Regatta Festival held here today.
Abang Johari further said with Sarawak recording a revenue increase this year, the State government will be able to start planning the implementation for the road project next year.
“We will begin the implementation from next year and hopefully within 3 to 4 years, the new road will be completed.
“From there, Telaga Air will become a centre for water sports,” he added.
Amongst those present were Malaysian Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri; Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; and Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development I (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
Yesterday (Dec 2), Abdul Rahman during the opening ceremony of the Telaga Air Regatta Festival, said the Sarawak government will build a 4.6km road from FAC road leading up to Telaga Air Waterfront. — DayakDaily
