PUTRAJAYA, Jan 6: Malaysia reported 2,593 new cases of Covid-19 today after recorded one of the highest daily infection of 2,525 cases on New Year Eve (December 31) last year.
With more than 2,500 cases reported, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has climbed to 125,438 cases.
There were also four new deaths reported.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,129 patients who recovered from Covid-19, making the cumulative cases which recovered from the virus to 100,578 cases or 80.2 percent of the total cases.
“Selangor reports a new highest daily infection of 965 cases or 37.2 percent.
“Out of that amount, 894 cases (92.6 percent) are from existing clusters and active case detection of close contacts of Covid-19 patients in the community.
“This is followed by Johor with 571 cases (22 percent) and Sabah with 405 cases (15.6 percent).
“There are 81 cases (3.1 percent) reported today associated with cases in prisons and immigration detention centres.
“There were four imported cases and the balance of 2,589 cases are local transmission,” he said during a press conference on the national Covid-19 update today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the four new deaths have pushed the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 513 cases.
He said there was 13 new cluster of Covid-19 today identified by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
They are the Dataran Utas Cluster (Selangor), Kampung Pitas Cluster (Sabah), Casa Permai (Selangor), Firma Cluster (Johor), Ikan Emas Cluster (Kuala Lumpur), Persiaran Teknologi Cluster (Johor), Tasik Utama Cluster (Negri Sembilan), Jalan Seputeh (Kuala Lumpur), Jalan Padu Cluster (Johor), Bersepadu Cluster (Johor), Kayuh Cluster (Kuala Lumpur), Anak Air Cluster (Melacca) and Medan Jasa Cluster (Selangor).
Dr. Noor Hisham said there were a total of 24,349 active cases of Covid-19 with 141 patients being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 67 patients on ventilators support.—DayakDaily
