KUCHING, April 11: The new Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) headquarters at Semenggok 12th Mile Jalan Kuching-Serian will be completed within three years.
Sited on a 20-acre parcel of land, the project cost is RM60 million and is funded by the Sarawak government.
According to MPP chairman Tan Kai, the facility is designed to foster efficiency, sustainability and a community-friendly complex.
“This office (the new headquarters), which we aim to complete within the next three years, will serve as a catalyst for economic, social, and community growth to support our broader goals of development and progress,” he said at the swearing-in ceremony of MPP councillors today.
The ceremony at the MPP office in Kota Padawan was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.
Tan Kai pointed out that the council has witnessed a significant increase in properties over the past few years.
“In 2017, following the transfer of Siburan properties to the Serian District Council, the number of properties under MPP stood at 66,326.
“Fast forward to 2024, the figure has risen to 81,356, which holds the highest count in Kuching,” he said.
Tan Kai also said that the council have completed its Green City Action Plan (GCAP), which formulates key initiatives to help with a low-carbon and climate-resilient city. — DayakDaily
