KUCHING, Sept 17: Significant strides are being made in the healthcare sector in Lawas, with the upgrade of Sundar Clinic and the near-completion of a new hospital, signalling enhanced medical services for the local community.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, the new Lawas hospital, which is now more than 80 per cent complete, is expected to provide improved healthcare services as a result of equipment contributions and ongoing collaborative efforts.
Despite these developments, Sarawak Deputy Premier and Bukit Sari assemblyman, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, highlighted the need for further improvements in other rural clinics across the region, particularly in terms of facilities, staffing, and expertise.
“It is not just about facilities, we also need to improve staffing and expertise,” he said.
Awang Tengah made these remarks during his speech at the ‘Handover of Basic Medical Supplies’ event, which was organised by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in collaboration with the Department of Health, Limbang Division, on Sunday (Sept 15) at Sundar Community Hall.
He encouraged the local community to adopt healthier lifestyles and make use of the recreational spaces available in Sundar.
Additionally, he urged them to seek medical attention when needed by visiting clinics and hospitals.
During the event, PETRONAS contributed various medical and non-medical supplies, valued at RM51,600, which included an Electronic Blood Pressure Monitoring device, Serum Bilirubinometer, Digital BP Set, weighing scales, chairs, washing machines, and more.
Among those present were Dato Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Deputy President of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati), Lawas Member of Parliament Dato Henry Sum Agong, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd senior general manager, Noriani Yatim Mohamad, and PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Mohd Rabu. — DayakDaily
