KUCHING, June 20: Dato Othman Abdillah who is in the midst of setting up Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar) says the party will participate in the next state election to be held by 2021.
He told the DayakDaily that the party is in the process of meeting all the requirements for registration with the Registrar of Societies.
“However, the party formation meeting scheduled for yesterday had to be postponed as many people from all over Sarawak wanted to join in.”
“All wanted to be part of the historic event. We can’t disappoint them”, said Othman.
When asked if Sedar was supported by United Malays National Organisation (Umno), Othman denied it.
“It is clear that there is a real demand from Sarawakians, especially the Bumiputera and the youth, that a new local party devoid of any ties to the present tainted politics and politicians be formed to represent their present and future interests.
“Thus, any talk now about Sedar being connected to Umno is just mischievous speculation,” said Othman.
He said the party wanted to bring a fresh political culture and responsibility with a new line-up of individuals who are in touch with the current realities and sufferings of Sarawakians whose plights have been neglected by both Putrajaya and Petra Jaya for decades. — DayakDaily
