KUCHING, July 9: The construction of the Julau Health Clinic (Type 4) and the Julau Health Office in Sarikei, with an increased budget of RM67.24 million, is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by the second quarter of 2028.
Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed that the project was initially approved under Rolling Plan 1 of the 12th Malaysia Plan in 2021, with a budget of RM50 million.
However, the project faced delays due to issues related to land ownership, as the project site belongs to the State government.
“Due to the land ownership issue, the implementation of this project had to be postponed,” Dr Dzulkefly explained.
In response to a question from Julau Member of Parliament Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien during the oral answers and questions session in the Dewan Rakyat on July 4, 2024, Dr Dzulkefly stated that all land ownership matters have now been resolved, and the Ministry of Health (MoH) received approval to proceed with the project from the Ministry of Economy on April 17, 2024, with the revised budget of RM67.24 million.
Dr Dzulkefly added that the application for the settlement was submitted by the MoH to the Department of the Director General of Lands and Minerals of the Sarawak Federation on June 21, 2022.
The settlement process was complicated due to the overlap between the site applied for and the site currently occupied by residents.
The Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia has been appointed as the implementing agency for this project and is currently preparing the design. — DayakDaily
