KUCHING, June 18: A private cleaning company in Jalan Sungai Tapang has sparked a new workplace cluster with 31 positive cases.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a daily statement today, the Jalan Sungai Tapang Cluster stemmed from social movement and close contact among the workers and their family members.

“A total of 236 individuals have been screened whereby 31 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 199 have tested negative and six are still awaiting test results.

“All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and Kuching Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment,” the Committee said.

Based on previous reports, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd on June 16 had declared that 17 of its employees have tested positive for Covid-19.

Due to the emergence of the cases among its staff, the company which is located in Jalan Sungai Tapang, had to temporary scheduled their waste collection services to only once a week.

The Jalan Sungai Tapang Cluster is one of the two new clusters announced by SDMC today with the other being Kampung Sungai Agas Cluster, also in Kuching.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of Sungai Duan Cluster in Mukah after reporting no new positive cases for the past 28 days.

At present, there are 93 active clusters in the State with six of them recording an increase of 41 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
