KUCHING, April 14: A new fire station will be built along Jalan Batu Kitang, says Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen.

He said the Ministry of Local Government Development has approved the construction of the new fire station and the necessary allocation of funds for it.

“In January 2023, I have submitted the application from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to the Ministry of Local Government Development for a new fire station in Stampin area.

“By February, the Ministry has approved the establishment of one fire station in the Stampin area, which will be located somewhere along Jalan Batu Kitang.

“Now, the only outstanding issue delaying the matter is the subdivision process of the land and building identified for the new fire station,” he said in a statement today.

Chong further applauded the swiftness with which the Minister Nga Kor Ming has approved the project for the establishment of a new fire station in Stampin within a month.

“I will continue to follow up on the matter and facilitate talks between the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Sarawak Land and Survey Department to expedite the subdivision issue.

“The locality of the proposed new fire station will also serve the Batu Kawa area given its proximity to certain areas in Batu Kawa.

“At the moment, the Batu Kawa constituency does not have a fire station despite the fact that its two-term assemblyman is also the Sarawak Minister overseeing the Fire and Rescue Department,” he added. — DayakDaily
